ISEA Professional Development Academy Courses
The ISEA's Professional Development Academy course offerings continue to grow and expand in order to meet the diverse needs of our members. Each of the 15-hour courses is available for either licensure renewal or graduate credit, and they can be offered at the request of a local association or UniServ unit. The courses range in cost from $30 to $45 for members ($65 to $85 for non-members). Graduate credit is available for an additional $105 ($140 for non-members) from Morningside College and Viterbo University.

- Facilatator Network
- The ISEA has organized and trained current NBCTs to work with and serve as facilitators for National Board candidates.
- Using the Iowa Teaching Standards
- Using the Iowa Teaching Standards is a course designed around the ISEA-published book A Framework for Understanding the Iowa Teaching Standards and Criteria that matches the work of Charlotte Danielson in her "Framework for Teaching" with the Iowa Standards.
- Increasing Student Effort and Responsibility
- The course explores motivational theory and helps teachers address the questions of how to influence the effort and responsibility of students. This is not a "silver bullet" for this issue, but provides teachers with the opportunity to explore the topic with others.
- Using Real Colors
- This course expands the Real Colors Workshop into a full one-credit course which provides teachers with a deeper understanding of temperament styles and how to use that knowledge in the classroom as well as in other relationships
- I CAN DO IT Plus! Classroom Management Techniques
- This course is based on workshop created by the California Teachers Association and distributed nationally by NEA. Originally designed for teachers in their first five years of teaching, many veteran teachers have found this course very helpful.
- Improving Teaching Through Reflection on National Standards
- This one-credit course provides information and support for teachers seeking National Board Certification.
- Exploring National Board Certification: Pre-Candidacy
- This one-credit course is designed for teachers who would like to gain more information about the National Board process or who plan to apply and would like to be prepared for a good start in the process.
- Assessing Portfolio Entries
- This new course is a follow-up to the Improving Teaching Through Reflection on National Standards course.
- Advanced Candidate Workshop
- This one-day workshop is offered for candidates who are using the National Board retake process
- Learning strategies that address childhood obesity through physical activity and nutrition education
- Childhood obesity is addressed by providing a comprehensive understanding of health-related physical fitness using multiple learning strategies that stress the importance of teaching both physical activity and nutrition education within the same curriculum.
